| A Notice to Marmion Family Members,
Since we began this website many years ago we have been contacted by many members of the Marmion family all over the world. A frequent question has been about who a man who styles himself as Baron Marmion, Lord Duhallow, Chevalier, and finally Captain of the Nation. He goes by William Francis Karnbach Marmion. He claims to be " head of Clan Marmion". Quite a few people also thought this site was affiliated with this man, and even addressed emails to him here. (it should be noted that this site is in no way connected with him) We initially believed him until the emails began and we were very confused and couldn't figure out what was going on. So we contacted him and he insists he is who he says he is, he was verbally abusive (we heard this from all of you as well) and he told me that he will take whatever he pleases. Then we researched the matter extensively, and this is what we found: His real last name is Karnbach, he is born in New York, even thought he clains Ireland as his birthplace. Early on I contacted Mr S. Murphy, who is working on claims of Chieftanship and Irish Genealogy, and Mr F. Gillespie the Chief Herald of Ireland to ask if a Mr William FK Marmion (or Mr Karnbach) was in fact Chief of the Marmion Clan, Chief of the Nation this is their response: ___________________________________________________________________________________ Reply from Sean Murphy There does not appear to be any record of an historical Marmion chiefship, and the name is of Norman origin, although sometimes used as a synonym of Merriman. We have no knowledge of any claim to such a style. Fergus Gillespie Priomh-Aralt na hEireann Chief Herald of Ireland. ____________________________________________________________________________________ We have heard from some family members who tell us that their research has been pubished in one of his (self published) books without their consent, they turned it over after a promise of assistance in uncovering further information, or placing it in the library in Ireland. Some are very distraught over the outcome. We have recieved the same offer, but were leery because no questions had ever been answered. I checked with the library in Ireland, and they told me they no longer accept family genealogies. We here at this website have encountered unauthorized publication of our work as well, when Tom's research was copied and used as Mr Karnbach's (alias) Chevalier William FK Marmion's Newsletter, without permission, and without contacting us, violating our copyright and terms of use. There have been quite a few other instances as well. By making infomation available to all on this website, we risk also losing our research in this same manner. While we appreciate you sharing your history here, so that all can benefit, please be aware that you can lose it in the same manner we did. We have even been contacted by a few organizations who voice their concern about this individual. All is not as it seems at all. We decided to post this information so that everyone could make up their own minds. (the opportunity to read this information before you just turn over your research as some folks have, to their regret.) Legal issues prevent us from saying more on this subject. All we can tell you is to research this on your own. All the information is out there. Since we personally are very uncomfortable with what we have uncovered, and sincerely wish the outcome to have been different, we gave notification to one and all (including Mr Karnbach himself). While we do not wish to embarrass anyone, and have agonized over this, and find it very uncomfortable, we decided after much thought to honestly present to all interested what we have experienced reguarding this matter. In our opinion, we personally felt it would be wrong not to. We hear from quite a lot of you and no one can verify any of the claims this man has made. | William Francis Marmion Karnbach continues to download all the information from our site. This time our own family line.It is for this reason we do not post sources.This is being used as proof. There has been quite a lot of activity before, this data is just for Novemeber 09. It would be great if he could just do his own research instead of taking ours to sell. Profiting from our research is a direct violation of the use of this website. |
