Patrick Marmion was married to Sarah Cull (she grew up along the road A2 from Killowen to Kilkeel, round Kilfeaghan at the foot of Knockshee.) Patrick was born around that area also. I believe he was born around 1866 to 1870, because his death certificate says he was 72, putting his birth at 1866, but his marriage certificate would have him born in 1870. (as do most of the census) Patrick went back to Newry area to claim some piece of land and had a stomach ulser before he went. He died at Daisy Hill Hospital on Febuary of 1938 (no burial info)some months before they received the news from someone in County Down, Ireland. I have a record of their marriage in Lancastershire England and their immigration to America to Philadelphia from Liverpool. They both moved to Liverpool and started dating and were married. R.Marmion. (grandson) |

note from Tom: He would have been a 1st cousin of Sir John. A number of Cull families lived between Kilkeel and Rostrevor (distance 13k approx). They lived in a district known as Killowen - it comprised a number of townlands, among which was Kilfeaghan or Kilfeighan. It would have been quite natural for Patrick to have gone to Liverpool where he could get employment on the docks from his cousins.Lots of Kilfeaghan people went to L'pool.
Once settled in PA, Sarah Cull Marmion was very active in assisting others to immigrate to the US
Patrick had a sister Annie Marmion NcNeil or NcNeilly already in America when he immigrated
Census
Patrick Marmion and Sarah Cull were both born in Mourne (County Down). Both moved to Liverpool as many of that era did, for employment purposes and this is where they met and married. Daughter Catherine was born in England and a year later the family immigrated to Pennsylvania PA. There the family grew and prospered. See Census below.
