The Record Keepers We gratefully acknowledge all the record keepers who came before us. How does one become the family record keeper? We believe it is a sudden and silent appointment. One day nothing else except finding that next document seems very important. We know how many hours it takes to uncover the smallest detail of our ancestor’s lives and we benefit from the previous generations of record keepers contribution. Each ancestor's life is revealed from the bits and pieces of their records left behind, and have painted the many dimensions to their lives, much more than merely birth and death statistics. Our ancestors, when viewed in hindsight, lived in a time and place of great historic impact, a time of great change, migrations west, plagues, wars, political upheaval. During such an interesting time in the development of America it seems even more important to dig deeper and attempt to understand the choices they had to make. In reading the letters of the previous generation’s record keepers, we found we all sound so much alike, the highs when you find something, the lows when you reach a dead end, and the complete obsession in continuing the hunt.
